Motion
Experimental

Poetry In Motion is a collection of video sequences based on my original poetry. Each design system emphasizes how poetry can paint pictures with words, using language to evoke mental images. These video sequences use abstract imagery, textures, and music to create visual narratives that evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

Poem 1
Artificial

Song
Fire by Rhye

Poem 1 titled “Artificial” conjures images of sunsets, oceans, and chasing the setting sun. To visually represent this theme, I printed photographs of sunsets and oceans onto paper. Then, using a digital microscope that records video, I scanned over the printed images, creating the moving textures used throughout the video.

Poem 2
Red

Song
And So, You Were!

Poem 2 titled “Red” conjures images of butterflies, candles, and spilled wine. To represent this peculiar set of visuals, I recorded videos of spilled black ink, which are the textures used in the video. At times, the texture is inverted to look like a candle's flame or reflected to look like butterfly wings. This style of visual representation is carried throughout the video.

Poem 3
The Footsteps Above

Song
Villageoises, FP 65: No. 2, Staccato by Francis Poulenc and Lang Lang
